Welcome to my website. I am a painter from Brooklyn, NY and I’ve held a studio practice since 1995 in different locations across New York City and in Upstate, NY. I regularly participate in Artist Residencies abroad, particularly in Eastern and Central Europe. I am currently living and working in Schenectady, NY, embarking on a series of paintings about Schenectady’s Historic Stockade District and the greater Capital Region’s urban architectural environment. In September, 2026 I was at the Mark Rothko Museum’s 22nd Annual Painting Symposium in Daugavpils, Latvia, and in November, 2026 at the SOON Artist Residency in Vienna, Austria. I will be adding paintings from and about these places as well, as they are completed. I invite you to explore my site, and feel free to contact me with any questions or inquiries. Thank you, Peter Maslow.

My work centers on urban architectural environments, using the forms and narratives of the city to explore internal mental constructs and capture a 'realism' that exists beyond mere appearance. For me, painting acts as a form of displacement—much like an object submerged in water—offering a simultaneous vantage point of both internal and external realities. Forms initially emerge on the canvas from my peripheral awareness of my surroundings. Once the canvas is saturated with this visual data, the process shifts toward rigorous revision, stripping away non-integral elements. While tangible architectural remnants remain, the final image ultimately serves as an observation on the psychological mechanisms we use to construct our world.
My process is a simple practice of exploration, recording through photography and sketching, and breaking down objects and narratives into forms I can use in my paintings. Below are examples:
